Why do they grow bald?
It is estimated that in one day a person losesthe average of a hundred hairs, and this is a completely normal, natural process. But if your hair suddenly starts falling out at a double speed, it's time to sound an alarm, because if things go on like this, the baldness or, worse, the complete baldness, is just around the corner. The problems of excessive hair loss are especially troubling to the stronger sex, because men are naturally predisposed to baldness. Why is this happening, why sometimes even a young thirty-year-old male has a bald spot on the vertex?
Why men are balding: the main reasons
In fact, there are quite a lot of reasons for male pattern baldness (however, like female hair loss). Let's consider the main ones.
The most common form of alopecia -androgenetic alopecia. Doctors-trichologists say that about 95% of balding males lose their hair because of androgenetic alopecia. The mechanism of the development of androgenetic alopecia is laid down at the gene level. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the hereditary predisposition to it is transmitted through the maternal line.
The main cause of baldness with this formAlopecia is the body's reaction to dihydrotestosterone, the active form of the male sex hormone testosterone. Some of the testosterone, which is constantly present in the male body, is converted into dihydrotestosterone by the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase contained in the hair follicles, which damages the cells of the hair follicles and thereby causes their dystrophy. As a result, hair from such damaged bulbs begin to grow thin, weak and colorless. As this process worsens, the hair becomes weaker and thinner, more and more often breaks and falls out, and soon a bald patch becomes visible on the head. Over time, the bald patch grows in size, the hair of the hair that previously covers it falls out completely, and the mouth of the hair follicles completely grows up - and now a smooth and brilliant bald head is shining on the head of the man who is not yet old and full of strength.
I must say that not all hair follicles are equally sensitive to dihydrotestosterone. It is especially destructive for the hair growing on the forehead and crown, the hair on the nape is resistant to its effects.
Summarize. There are three main causes of hair loss in androgenetic alopecia:
- excessive sensitivity of hair follicles to the effects of dihydrotestosterone;
- increased dihydrotestosterone content in the body;
- excessive activity of the enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone.
Second place in terms of prevalencediffuse alopecia. This form of alopecia is characterized by a practically uniform hair loss throughout the scalp. Diffuse alopecia develops as a result of any disturbances in the work of the whole organism, so sometimes it is also called symptomatic.
There are two main forms of diffuse alopecia: telogen and anagenic alopecia.
With telogen, slowly developing formbaldness, most of the hair follicles gradually stop their work, and the hair simply stops growing. This can occur as a result of prolonged use of some potent drugs or after a serious surgical procedure. Constant nerve stress, vitamin deficiency, hormonal disruptions, chronic illnesses, rigid diets can also cause telogen diffuse alopecia.
Anagenic alopecia is a transient formdiffuse alopecia. Under the influence of strong external factors, hair begins to fall directly into the growth stage, resulting in baldness develops in a very short time. Anagenic baldness can be the result of chemotherapy, radiation exposure or severe poisoning.
Very rare form of alopecia. Its name speaks for itself - with this form of alopecia, hair falls not over the entire head, but only in its individual parts, resulting in the formation of characteristic rounded bald nests, the so-called foci. Since this form of baldness is extremely rare, the mechanism of its development has not yet been studied, and the reasons for its occurrence are not entirely clear. It is believed that focal alopecia can cause immune disorders in the body or stress and poor ecology.
