When to catch a pike?
One of the most active predators in the freshponds - pike. Often its victims are fish, exceeding it in size. It can be found in almost all rivers and lakes throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
The swept elongated body of this predator, slightly compressed on the sides, you will not be confused with any other fish. A huge jaw with a large number of sharp teeth is revealed almost to the gill cover. Body color - spotted and striped. The belly is lighter than the back. The exact color depends on the habitat. For example, a pike that arranges ambushes on sandbars is always lighter than the one that hides under driftwood and in pits.
Pike likes a calm current. Therefore, it usually lives in bays, flowing lakes and in areas of rivers with a weakened current. The animal grows quickly. So, by the beginning of the fourth year of life, it can weigh up to 1 kg and be 40 cm in length - this is the time when catching a pike is nice because of the catch of a large size. On large lakes and in the valleys of large rivers, fishermen sometimes draw representatives of the species with a mass of 16 kg.
The time when you can catch a pike with a maximumeffectiveness, comes three times a year. When the ice collapses, the first zhor begins. The second zhor passes after the end of spawning. During this period, the pike absorbs the maximum amount of prey, and then a few days starving. In September-October, the pike prepares for wintering, which is characterized by the third zhor.
Means of fishing
To catch a pike is best for live bait. Suitable for this are karasiki, minnows and roach. Small scumbags willingly peck at the worm. In the summer and in the spring, the pike takes cancer well. In overgrown lakes or ponds, a frog is perfect for bait. From artificial bait, you can use a snapper with a dead fish. Some fishermen catch also on a spoon-bait. For amateur fishing, a spinning rod, a path, a bait rod and a box are used.
Times of Day
The period when the pike bites the most active is the dawn. Closer to noon, the clay is usually weaker. Although, if the reservoir "worries", then the bug remains in the daytime. By the evening activity again increases. In the summer, it is best to catch this fish on cloudy days and at cold snaps. In autumn the most active bite starts in the middle of the day (when another fish comes to feed). The most difficult thing is to catch a pike in dense thickets. In this case, it is necessary to have muzzles and circles arranged along the thickets.
As already mentioned, the pike prefers soft water. Accordingly, catching it is best in whirlpools, snags and thick underwater thickets. Especially in the summer, when the fish is rescued there from the heat. When fishing with top dressing, it can leave its habitual places of ambushes to swim to the fish, attracted by food.
In some areas, pike fishing is prohibited in the spring. In addition, in some regions of the Russian Federation it is possible to catch this fish only for bait. Finally, the catch is limited to 5 kg per day per fisher. The only exception is the catch of one fish, which weighs more than 5 kg.
