What is the navel?
Many of us have never thought thathave scars from birth. But do not be scared, because it's just about the mother's trace on our body - about the navel. Let us consider in detail what the navel is and what its features are.
Navel is a tissue formation,remaining on the abdominal wall after the separation of the umbilical cord from the newborn. Different people, it can be different. For someone, it looks like a hollow in the abdomen, and someone, on the contrary, is slightly elevated. The navel is present in all highly developed mammals, embryos of which carry out their vital activity through the placenta.
Anatomic features of the navel
Features of the navel should be divided in the periodintrauterine development and after the newborn was born. The main element inside the navel is the umbilical ring, which provides intrauterine development through the umbilical cord passing through it. Initially, the blood supply of the navel is carried out by two umbilical arteries and one vein. After that the vein grows and works already for the benefit of the liver. But next to the navel, there are still the umbilical veins.
The following layers are distinguished in the navel:
- scar tissue;
- transverse connective shell;
- parietal peritoneum.
Navel is a "weak" place on the human bodynot only because of the structural features, but also because it can be susceptible to diseases. For example, many known umbilical hernia can affect this area of the human body.
